Who are you kidding?
Crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man, that teacheth all men every where against the people, and the law, and this place: and further brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath polluted this holy place (Acts 21:28).
What are you known for? What could the world point its accusing figure at you and declare, “This is the man that….” Would there be enough evidence to convict you of being a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ? A bold witness of his truth? A lover of souls? A student of the word? A kind help to those in need? The Apostle John exhorts us, “My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth” (1 John 3:18). Does my life match my lips? If I died today, what would others say of me? Whether in praise or complaint, may we have such a testimony as Paul. Whether this crowd welcomed the word or wanted its messenger dead, they knew that Paul was the man who taught them God’s truth, despite the opposition he faced. When I am brought before the inspecting eye of this wicked old world, what kind of man will they say I am? When I am dead and home in glory, what will those who hear of my passing or think of me declare? How will they fill in the blank, “This is the man that_____”?
Sodomy is a wicked, perverted sin. There, I said it. It is aberrant. It is abnormal. It is wrong. Our Creator God clearly pronounces judgment on such a lifestyle, calling it an “abomination” in the Old Testament and “vile affections” in the New (Lev 18:22, Romans 1:26). History is replete with examples of this behavior eroding like a canker the moral core of a society, hastening the downfall of once-great cultures in Rome and Athens. Nature itself even stands in bold, biological opposition to this sexual deviance. And yet, a small–but loud and angry–cabal has forced the arms of America to embrace what was once considered illegal or illness. No one should wish violence upon someone struggling with homosexuality, but we must in love speak the truth. Friend, Jesus Christ died upon a cross and rose again for sinners–the murderer, the drunkard, the sodomite, and the like. Thankfully, many have found deliverance from this bondage and a new life in Christ by calling upon the name of the Lord (Romans 10:13). But woe unto a people, God warns, “that call good evil, and evil good” (Is 5:20).
